About the player
Sarpreet Singh came through the Wellington Phoenix system and made his senior debut in the A-League in 2015, going on to score 9 goals in 39 appearances for the club. In 2019 he moved to Bayern Munich in a deal reported at between NZD $750,000 and $1,000,000, a club record for Wellington Phoenix. He left Bayern permanently for Hansa Rostock in 2023, but his contract there was nullified after the club's relegation, and he joined União de Leiria as a free agent in 2024, scoring 4 goals in 19 appearances in Portugal.
Singh's clearest impact has come with New Zealand. He made his international debut against Canada in March 2018 and has since built up 31 caps and 3 goals, including strikes against Kenya and India at the 2018 Intercontinental Cup. He was part of the New Zealand squad that won the 2024 OFC Nations Cup and played at the Paris Olympics that year as an overage player. He was later named in the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, starting against Iran.
