Cappellen

Players walked out of Victoria FC in Kapellen in 1906 and set up their own side. The federation, when it came to register the club, put the founding date at 1 January 1909, and that is the year Cappellen has counted from ever since. On 30 May 1937, the club received royal patronage and became a Koninklijke Vereniging.

The long climb is the part worth following. Cappellen first reached the second division in 1932, having won its group in the third tier, then dropped out before the war and spent decades moving between national and provincial football. The rebuild started in 1989 with a First Provincial title. They held that level until 2000.

Belgium reorganised its leagues, and in 2022–23 Cappellen won Division 2 VFV B to go up to National Division 1, the third tier.

The fixture the club treats as its own is the one against Berchem Sport, known simply as de derby; Rupel Boom and Lierse Kempenzonen also make life awkward. Stadion Jos van Wellen holds 3,506.

Jan Ceulemans coached here between 2012 and 2014. Bart De Roover had two spells, the first running from 2003 to 2009, the second from 2017 to 2020.
