Chippenham Town

Chippenham took shape in the winter of 1884, when local players began organising matches around Wiltshire, the earliest of them a game against Melksham that December. The club has since dated itself further back, to 1873, though nothing from that year survives to back the claim, and league records only pick up the trail in the 1904–05 season, when the side joined the Western League's second division.

Hardenhuish Park has held them since, a ground built for 3,000 with room for 300 to sit, currently carrying a sponsor's name but known locally by its own. The Bluebirds' best season came in 2016–17, when they ran up 103 points to win the Southern League Premier Division and go up to the National League South. There have been Western League titles before that, in 1952 and 1981, and Wiltshire League championships going back to 1908.

Tyrone Mings passed through the club in 2012, sold on to Ipswich Town for £10,000 before his career carried him to Aston Villa and England; Ian Monnery holds the appearance record, Dave Ferris the scoring one.

Bath City supply the fixture that matters most, the A4 Derby named for the road linking the two towns. Melksham Town's meetings run older still, contested for the Ian Monnery Trophy, while Swindon Town's status leaves the sides crossing paths only rarely now.
