Promotion out of the Regionalliga West came round again in 2026. The pattern is familiar by now: win the division, then take a play-off. In 2022 that route worked, against Holstein Kiel, and the following season the team made its debut in the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga.

The side exists to feed the first team rather than to stand alone, and the deeper history it draws on is not really its own. Women's football at the club runs back through Grün-Weiß Brauweiler, where a training group was set up in 1974, and through FFC Brauweiler Pulheim 2000, which became a separate club on 1 June 2000 and carried a German championship from 1997 and three DFB Cups with it. On 1 July 2009 that club moved into 1. FC Köln, and the women's team dates its founding from there.

Sonja Fuss played a season at the club in 2009/10, arriving as a two-time world champion — the sort of name the section acquired the moment it took over Brauweiler's place in the game.

The fixtures that carry weight are the regional ones: Bayer 04 Leverkusen for the Frauen-Derby, Borussia Mönchengladbach in the cup. Nothing comparable exists against the other clubs in the city.

Home is the Franz-Kremer-Stadion, inside the Geißbockheim training complex on Franz-Kremer-Allee. It went up in 1971 as the Amateurstadion, took its present name in 1977 and was rebuilt in 2005. Of its 5,457 places, most are standing — 1,900 seats under cover, the rest of the ground on its feet. The men's first team plays elsewhere in Cologne; the women and the reserves have this one.
