Feirense Women

Second-division handball in Portugal rarely produces a season like the one CDFeirense/Movit have just put together: 16 wins, one draw and a single defeat carried them to the top of the first phase and into promotion play-offs for the first time in the section's history. The rise stands out precisely because the handball side of Clube Desportivo Feirense has spent most of its existence away from the game's upper reaches, working through the lower divisions since it was set up in 2002 — eighty-four years after the parent club itself was founded in Santa Maria da Feira, in 1918, as a multi-sport institution that would go on to carry the town's name across several codes.

The team plays in blue and white and shares the "Fogaceiros" nickname with the rest of the club, adapted to "Fogaceiras" for the women's side — a name borrowed from the fogaça, the sweet bread associated with the town. Its matches against AD Sanjoanense and UD Oliveirense are treated locally as derbies, contests sharpened less by history at the top of the table than by geography.

Home games are played at the Pavilhão de S. João de Ver. No national title or cup has yet come the women's team's way, which is part of why this season's playoff run reads as new territory rather than a return to old form.
