Hammarby's handball side are back in the Handbollsligan after the 2019 relegation, and the 2025 season showed how far the rebuild has come: a run all the way to the Swedish Championship final, lost to IFK Kristianstad. The Swedish Cup has gone the same way twice over — beaten by IFK Kristianstad on shoot-outs in 2023, then by Ystads IF in 2024.

The section traces back to October 1939, folded after a spell in the mid-1950s, and only found its feet again in 1970, when it merged with the local Lundens BK. What followed took decades to pay off. Between 2006 and 2008, with Staffan Olsson running the team as player-coach, Hammarby took three straight Swedish Championships.

Martin Dolk has carried that era into this one, on the books in two separate spells, 2006 to 2014 and then again from 2015. Matches are played at Eriksdalshallen on Södermalm, a listed building that holds 1,800 under normal seating and can be pushed to as many as 2,600 with temporary stands put up around it.

Green and white, and the Bajen nickname borrowed from the wider club, place the handball section alongside AIK and Djurgården as one of Stockholm's big three. The current squad, built around players such as Oliver Wigmark and Henrik Olsson, also takes the club into the EHF European League this season.
