Hc Norilsk

Mikhail Anisin won the Gagarin Cup in 2012, and he later played for Norilsk. The world's northernmost professional club, whose Polar Bears are also called the Transpolar Bears.

The club began as a charity game. On 1 April 2023 the decision to build a professional team was announced at a charity match, and it was registered on 17 April. The base was Planeta, a side from the Night Hockey League. The Vysshaya Hokkeinaya Liga (VHL) debut followed in September 2023. The owner and sponsor is Vladimir Potanin, through Norilsk Nickel. In autumn 2024 the hockey team was joined with the Norilsk Nickel mini-football club under one roof, as Sports Club "Norilsk".

The city had a team before this. Zapolyarnik played in the Soviet and Russian lower leagues from 1958 to 2001, with breaks, and won nothing major. The present club sees itself as a revival of that tradition, though it does not claim Zapolyarnik's records.

Norilsk is the only professional club in its city, so it has no local derby. Its rival is Sokol Krasnoyarsk, and the "Moroznoe Derby", the Frost Derby, has run since 2023. Home games are played at the Arctica Palace of Sports, which holds 2,184 spectators.

The 2024/25 season is the best so far. Norilsk reached the VHL playoff quarterfinals and lost there to Ugra. In 2025 the club also reached the second round of the Russian Cup. It has no trophies yet.
