La Roche-sur-Yon

Joël Caillaud signed the statutes of the "Club des Aigles" on 10 July 1996, at a time when the Vendée had no ice hockey at all. The club that came out of it, now called Hockey Glace Yonnais and known as HOGLY, entered its first senior championship in Division 3 in 1997–98 and has kept the Eagles nickname ever since.

The best stretch came after 2015. HOGLY lost the Division 2 final to Vanoise, and the result still took them up to Division 1, where they stayed until 2019. Then the money ran out. Relegation from D1 coincided with financial difficulties, and the club chose to drop itself to Division 4 rather than carry the debt through a higher league. It was a decision to step back and stabilise, and the climb began again from there.

That climb relied on local players. Guillaume Chanson and Sébastien Neimer, both academy graduates, came back to the team, and Bohus Farkasovsky has been on the roster since 2012. Andrew Donald captains the side.

The route back ended on 8 May 2023 in the Division 3 Carré Final, where HOGLY beat Lyon 3–1 with Landon Trutt in goal.

HOGLY has no derby in the ordinary sense, because it is the only ice hockey club in the Vendée. The rivalries are regional: the Corsaires de Nantes and Brest HC are the nearest opponents, and the games against them are the closest thing the club has to a local fixture.
