Handball in Wiener Neustadt has spent recent seasons chasing the shape it held a decade earlier, when roomz JAGS WV Frauen kept finishing behind a single rival rather than off the pace entirely. The club competes in the Austrian Women's Handball League, and its own supporters measure a good year against those four runner-up finishes rather than against a trophy that has never arrived.

The section grew out of the Erster Wiener Neustädter Allround Sportverein, a multi-sport club that put a handball department together in 1950; the women's side itself did not take the court until 1953, then folded at the end of the 1950s and had to be rebuilt in the following decade before it found any continuity.

That continuity showed up mostly in near misses. JAGS reached the Austrian Championship final four times, in 2003/04, 2004/05, 2005/06 and again in 2013/14, and lost each one. The closest look at silverware came the same season, 2013/14, in the Austrian Cup final, where Hypo Niederösterreich beat them 40–14 — a scoreline that left little room to argue about the gap. In Europe, the club's furthest runs stopped at the third round of the Cup Winners' Cup in 2005/06 and the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup in 2007/08.

Since 2008 the club has leaned harder on its own academy; by the 2017/18 season eleven home-grown players held places in the top-flight squad, among them goalkeeper Joy-Estelle Luchsinger. The fixture that still sharpens attention each year is the so-called Ost-Derby against FIVERS WAT Margareten, a duel that carries more weight around the Anemonenseehalle than any league table position.

What the club has not managed, across seven decades under one name or another, is turning any of those four championship finals into a title.
