Slough sits close enough to Heathrow and the M4 to be known as a town people pass through rather than stop in, and for well over a century Slough Town has been one of the few things that gives it a fixed point. The club traces back to a meeting on 10 September 1889, when three local sides — Chalvey, Slough Albion and the Friendly Society — merged into what was first called Slough and District F.C. It took the Slough Town name only in November 1947, decades into its life.

The nickname carries its own story. As Slough United, the club led a breakaway from the Spartan League in 1945–46 to help form the Corinthian League instead, and "The Rebels" stuck as a description of that stand. They took the new league's first title in 1950–51, then kept collecting silverware through the Athenian League in the 1960s and early 1970s, including back-to-back Premier Division championships in 1971–72 and 1972–73.

Arbour Park has been home only since 2016, the latest stop after years of moving between the Dolphin Ground, Wexham Park, a ground-share in Windsor and another in Beaconsfield — a wandering spell that makes the current, settled ground count for something locally. The rivalry with Maidenhead United, played out as the "Berkshire Derby," and the Thames River Derby against Windsor & Eton give the fixture list its sharpest edges.

Elijah Adebayo spent the 2016–17 season on loan there before going on to Luton Town, one of a handful of names who passed through on their way somewhere bigger. The club's own biggest stage came in the FA Cup, reaching the Second Round in 2004–05 after knocking out Walsall, and again in 2017–18. Slough Town continue in non-league football out of Arbour Park, still built around that same amber and navy.
