Sokół Kleczew

The Stadion Miejski w Kleczewie holds 800 people. That is the ground a town in Greater Poland has given a side that will spend the 2025/26 season in the second tier, and it is the ground Sokół Kleczew earned it on.

Football in Kleczew goes back to Spójnia, set up in 1928, then to the village sports club formed after the war in 1946. The club in its present shape, Klub Sportowy Sokół Kleczew, dates from 1982. The climb has been slow and mostly local: the fourth tier in 1955, the third for the first time in 1995, then a drop far enough that the 2015/16 season was spent winning the Konin group of Klasa A — county-level football — to get back to the fourth tier.

Nine years on from that, Tomasz Pozorski took over from Łukasz Cichos and won group II of the III liga. Cichos had two spells, 2018–2020 and 2022–2024, and left the squad that did it. Promotion in 2025 was the first time in 97 years that anyone in Kleczew had a second-division side.

The regional cup has been the club's steadiest source of days out: winners of the Wielkopolski ZPN Puchar Polski in 2010/11, again in 2012/13 and 2013/14, and once more in 2022/23. The derby that matters most is with Górnik Konin, the neighbours from the same county; the history between them adds an edge that the fixture with KKS Kalisz, from further off, has never quite matched.

In October 2025 the club signed Volodymyr Kostevych, a Ukrainian left-back who had made 119 appearances for Lech Poznań between 2017 and 2020. Kleczew has roughly 4,000 residents.
