Woltmershausen

Woltmershausen, a district tucked into western Bremen, has kept a football club under one name or another since the start of the twentieth century, even if the name itself has rarely sat still. TS Woltmershausen traces its playing line back to FV Woltmershausen, founded in 1900.

That club did not survive the war. FV Woltmershausen was dissolved in 1945, and members rebuilt on 3 March 1946 as TSV Woltmershausen, absorbing the gymnastics club TV 1890 Woltmershausen before renaming again to TV Woltmershausen that July. In 1947 part of the membership split off to form SV Woltmershausen, which was playing in the Landesliga Bremen by 1949. The two clubs ran side by side until 27 September 1974, when SV and TV Woltmershausen merged into TS Woltmershausen, the club still fielding teams today.

Locally the side goes by the carousel, a name that fits its record of moving up and down the Bremen pyramid: third in the Landesliga in 1967/68, third in the Bremen-Liga in 1986/87, relegated more than once and promoted again as recently as 2022, now playing in the Oberliga Bremen. Home matches are played in red and white at the Bezirkssportanlage Hanseaten-Kampfbahn, which holds 5,000.

A first senior trophy has twice slipped away in the Bremen Cup final: TSV Osterholz-Tenever won it on penalties, 6-5, in 1987/88, and SV Hemelingen beat Woltmershausen in a later final. The women's team got there before the men did. In 2012 they won the women's Bremen Cup, beating ATS Buntentor 4-2, a result that carried them into that season's DFB-Pokal.
