Alumni Memorial Field

Alumni Memorial Field at Foster Stadium sits in Lexington, Virginia. The stands are built into a slope. The ground looks older than it is. The terraced seating is concrete with simple red seats, and a press box sits above the main stand. On the side, a wall carries the name Foster Stadium in plain lettering. Down by the road, a small sign marks the entrance, and a black SUV sits parked near the gate. The road itself runs straight past the ground, and a pedestrian crossing is painted white across the tarmac.

The history here is layered. Before the current structure, the school played on Alumni Field and then Wilson Field, so the new build replaced two different pitches. When the major renovation came in 2006, the name changed to include the donor, but the basic shape did not. The work brought in new glass windows for the press box, a scoreboard, and better seating, but it kept the open-air feel. The grass is natural and has been changed over time, most recently re-sodded in 2024, so the colour stays green through the season.

The south-east corner holds a semi-circular section of red track that meets the goal area. A small structure with a green roof stands near the stand, likely for equipment or staff. In the distance, trees cover the hills, and a few buildings from the town are visible. The place feels like it belongs to the institute, with the cadets’ presence in the surroundings rather than just in the stands.
