Kuznetsk Metallurgs Arena named after Oleg Korolenko

Novokuznetsk, Russia

Formerly: Palace of Sports of the Kuznetsk Metallurgists, Arena Kuznetskikh Metallurgov

The building sits on 24 Stroiteley Avenue. The architects Zhuravkov, Valiakhmetov and Vaganov finished the job in 1984, replacing an open-air stadium that had served the city since 1937.

Before that, it was simply Arena Kuznetskikh Metallurgov, and before that the Palace of Sports of the Kuznetsk Metallurgists. The names shift, but the tenant, Metallurg Novokuznetsk, stays put.

The capacity sits at 6,811 now, down from the historical 7,533. It was full to the brim once, in 2011/12, when 7,500 people watched the final game of the KHL season.
