Cairo International Stadium

Cairo International Stadium sits on El Stadium El Bahary Street in Nasr City. It is a place where two clubs have shared a home since 1960. Al Ahly SC and Zamalek SC have been using the ground for their own matches, and the Egypt national team has played there since the beginning. Ismaily SC also called it home for a time, notably when they staged the 1969 African Cup of Champions Clubs final.

The original design came from the German architect Werner March, who worked on the Berlin Olympic Stadium, with the Egyptian firm ACE Moharram Bakhoum handling the engineering. The opening ceremony on July 23, 1960, was led by President Gamal Abdel Nasser, and the ground kept his name— Nasser Stadium —for many years after. The 2019 renovation brought in 30,000 new seats, some of them imported from Spain, and a new hybrid grass pitch that comes with a 15-year guarantee. A new running track was also part of the earlier work done for the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations.

The atmosphere shifts depending on who is playing. The 2006 final was different, with Egypt defeating Ivory Coast on penalties. The 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup final saw Ghana win on penalties against Brazil. It also hosted the 1991 All-Africa Games.

The stadium is about 10 km from Cairo International Airport and downtown Cairo.
