De Heuye

Veen, Netherlands

De Heuye did not announce itself with grand architecture. It was a modest facility in Veen, situated on land acquired by the club in August 1946. The ground opened with matches against vv Drunen and Ameide, establishing itself as the home for VV Achilles Veen long before the current century began. Unlike the shiny arenas nearby, this place lacked floodlights, meaning games were played under the fading Dutch light or the clear sky. The pitch was natural grass, worn down by decades of amateur football.

The capacity was small, holding just 1,800 spectators. The highest attendance reached only 350 people during a KNVB Cup match on November 28, 1960. That game ended in a 3-3 draw. The stadium was not the venue for the club’s recent triumphs, such as the KNVB Cup victory in 2021 or the promotion playoffs in 2024. Those moments happened at Sportpark Hanen Weide.

The club moved away in 2013, leaving the old ground behind. The land was rented from the municipality in November 1946, but the club no longer uses that address. De Heuye is now considered no longer existing or usable for the team. The club was founded in 1944 and won its first championship in 1948. De Heuye is a memory of the village pitch.
