FM Mattsson Arena
Mora, Sweden
Formerly: Mora Ishall, Smidjegrav Arena, Jalas Arena, Wibe Arena
The Wibe Arena in Mora presents a low-slung profile against the sky, its curved roof split between red and green panels.
Mora IK play their home games here on a sheet of artificial ice. The club has had periods in the top flight and periods on the lower tiers of Swedish hockey, and the building has grown with the sport. The structure is functional, built for cold and for crowds of a certain size.
The ground opened on 6 October 1967 as Mora Ishall , when the club first needed a permanent home for the winter months. It was not until the mid-2000s, when the team reached the Elitserien, that the facility was expanded to hold 4,500 people. The naming rights have shifted with the economy of the town: FM Mattsson Arena , Smidjegrav Arena , and Jalas Arena all belong to the past.
The location on Hantverkaregatan 31 places it near local housing, close enough for fans to walk home after a late game. It is a place that does not pretend to be anything other than an ice rink in a small city.
