The ground on Stadium Road is dominated by an eight-lane running track that has drawn persistent criticism for its murram sand surface, a design choice that arguably compromises the quality of play on the adjacent pitch. The track sits between the floodlit field and the tiers of seating, creating a visual barrier that separates the game from the crowd more sharply than a modern bowl would.

The architecture is defined by a single large stand that curves across the width of the facility. In the photograph, the seats are arranged to spell out "GWANGJU," a relic from the 2002 World Cup era rather than a local reference, though the name Simeon Nyachae Stadium was officially adopted in 2021 to honour the late politician. The renaming followed his burial at the venue, yet the older name persists in everyday usage.

The capacity sits somewhere between 5,000 and 15,000 depending on which source you trust and when you ask. The structure appears mostly open to the sky, with the main stand offering partial cover while the rest of the terraces are exposed. This exposure matters in a place where the weather can turn quickly. The pitch itself is natural grass, maintained by an underground irrigation system, but the surface has been a point of contention, leading to a temporary closure in 2020 when officials deemed the work substandard.

Shabana FC, now Gusii United, calls this patch of ground home, but the venue does not belong to them alone. It hosts rugby teams and political rallies, and during the year, it opens its gates for the agricultural show. The ground feels less like a temple of football and more like a civic hall with a track, a place where the local community gathers for reasons beyond the ninety minutes of the match.
