Gyergyószentmiklósi Műjégpálya

The Gyergyószentmiklósi Műjégpálya stands in Gheorgheni. Its identity is shaped by the 17 laminated wooden arches that span the roof, a feature recognised as a significant architectural value in the region. Built between 1977 and 1982 using local materials and volunteer labour, the venue was the third indoor ice rink in Romania. The surface measures 60 by 30 metres.

The capacity is listed at 1,480, though some accounts suggest up to 2,000 with standing room. The primary tenant was Gyergyói HK, a team founded in 1949 that competed in the Erste Liga and the Romanian Hockey League. They claimed the Erste Liga title in the 2022–23 and 2024–25 seasons, but by 2025 the professional side had relocated its home fixtures to the new Remetea Ice Arena in Gyergyóremete. The Gheorgheni rink now hosts youth hockey and public skating sessions.

A fire caused by an electrical short circuit in February 2017 damaged the roof and wiring, clearing away roughly 10 square metres of insulation. The venue underwent partial modernization in 2014–2015, replacing the cooling system and boards for about 2.7 million lei. A major reconstruction project approved in 2019 aimed to replace the roof entirely and expand the stands to 2,128 seats, funded by the National Investment Company and the municipality.
