Íþróttamiðstöð FRAM

The new Íþróttamiðstöð FRAM sits in the Úlfarsárdalur district of Reykjavík. It is not a renovation of the old Safamýri ground, but a fresh build that began in 2019. The complex sits at Úlfarsbraut 126, a location chosen to consolidate the club’s operations and free up the old pitch for housing.

The main pitch here is natural grass, a deliberate choice for a ground that opened in May 2022. It holds 1,650 spectators, a capacity that keeps the stands close to the action without overwhelming the space. On the opening day, the crowd roared them on as Fram drew 3-3 against ÍBV in a friendly. The building itself is functional, with the design by VA Arkitektar.

The site also features a synthetic pitch and two training grounds, making it a hub for the club rather than just a matchday venue. It is part of a larger plan for education and culture in the area, a shift from the days when the club played on artificial turf at the old site. The move was necessary, as the city took over the previous properties to develop housing for residents.

The ground is home to Fram’s men’s and women’s teams, as well as their youth sides, ensuring the space is used throughout the week. The project cost around 4.6 billion Icelandic króna, a sum that reflects the scale of the undertaking and the importance placed on community sports infrastructure in the capital.
