Katrinhallen
Mariestad, Sweden
Formerly: Katrinhallen
Mariestad's Mariehus Arena stands as a functional reminder of the town's sporting history. It is an ice hockey facility in the Mariehus district, though it is best known by its older name, Katrinhallen.
The arena opened in 1964, making it one of the first indoor ice rinks in Sweden. It is owned by the Mariestad municipality and serves as the home for Mariestad BoIS HC. The club, established in 1998, has played in Hockeyettan, the third tier of Swedish ice hockey, and previously competed in the second tier, Hockeyallsvenskan, during the 2008–09 season. The ice surface is artificial, maintained by refrigeration systems typical for such venues.
A training hall was added to the facility in 2009, but the main building remains largely unchanged. The historical attendance record of 4,400 spectators was set in 1983 during a derby against Skövde IK. The club was founded after the original entity went bankrupt, yet it continues to play in the same district where its predecessors started.
