King Abdullah Sports City

The King Abdullah Sports City Stadium carries the nickname 'The Jewel' (Al-Jawhara). It stands within a complex roughly 60 kilometers north of Jeddah's centre, positioned along the Mecca-Medina Highway.

It opened on May 1, 2014. The construction, which began in 2012, was handled by a joint venture between the Belgian firm BESIX and the Saudi company Al-Muhaidib Contracting Company. The ambition was to replace the older Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium, and the result was a facility built for two giants of the local game. Since its opening, the ground has been shared by Al-Ahli Saudi FC and Al-Ittihad FC, who moved their operations from the previous site.

The pitch itself uses a DESSO GrassMaster hybrid system, reinforced with synthetic fibres and fitted with an undersoil heating system to manage the climate. The capacity sits at 62,345. Over the years, the venue has hosted high-profile events beyond domestic football, including the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup Final and the 2025 Supercopa de España Final between Barcelona and Real Madrid. It has also seen heavyweight boxing weigh-ins and table tennis tournaments.

A renovation was completed in 2023 to prepare for the return of the Club World Cup, and further minor refurbishments are planned for the 2034 FIFA World Cup. The playing surface remains a central feature; on match nights, the green of the pitch contrasts sharply with the seats in the tiers. The structure has no previous official names, retaining its primary designation as the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, though it is currently sponsored as the Alinma Stadium.
