The name comes from the mountain range to the south, but the building itself has no relation to the rock; it is flat, functional, and grey.

Construction finished in 1997. A major rebuild finished on August 4, 2015, when the roof was replaced and the stands were modernised to meet international standards. Now it hosts the Turkmenistan national team, and on that specific afternoon in 2019, the table goes out of the window in these games. The crowd of 26,500 watched a 1–0 win against North Korea, a result that matters more than the architecture.

The pitch sits at ground level, enclosed by a high fence. The access road is wide and straight, leading from the main artery, Magtymguly Avenue, to a car park that stretches out on either side of the entrance. There is no grand entrance hall. The building is owned by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which ensures security remains the primary focus.

The surface is natural grass, cut short and hard. It does not absorb heat like the surrounding asphalt. In summer, the air above the pitch shimmers, and the wind comes straight from the desert. The stands are simple, with rows of concrete seats and a roof that covers only the main section. The rest of the ground is exposed.

When the national team plays here, the stadium is full. The noise comes from the single stand and bounces off the walls. It is not a beautiful place, but it is a place where the sport is played without distraction. Köpetdag Aşgabat have used this ground for decades, and the team knows the way the ball bounces on the hard pitch. They do not need a fancy stadium to win; they need consistency. The reconstruction of 2015 gave them that.
