For a town of this size, the arena acts as a primary hub for the sport, hosting the final rounds of the 2011 World Men's Handball Championship and later co-hosting the 2023 edition alongside Poland. The capacity adjusts depending on the event; while 4,700 seats are fixed for matches, temporary flooring allows the space to hold more for concerts, though the primary focus remains the handball court. The team had a strong run in the 2018–19 season, setting a record for average attendance in the league, filling the stands consistently.

The arena has hosted international matches, but its daily role is supporting the local club through the season. The surface has been updated over time, with a new floor installed recently, ensuring the playing conditions remain consistent for the team that calls it home.
