LD "Legends of Hockey"
Moscow, Russia
Formerly: Palace of Sports 'Sokolniki', Ice Palace 'Sokolniki'
The new ice complex at Sokolnichesky Val Street, 1B does not look like the sports palace that stood there before. Where the old Palace of Sports 'Sokolniki' once held crowds of thousands, the LD 'Legends of Hockey - Sokolniki' seats just over 1,500. The original building was torn down in 2021, leaving a quiet site until the new structure rose in its place. It opened in the summer of 2023, a modest replacement for a grander past.
What remains is the connection to the ice. The main arena is smaller than the old one, but it carries the same name for the teams that play here. MHK Spartak and MHK Spartak MAH use the facility for their home games. The surface is artificial ice, kept cold by modern refrigeration systems that run through the night. It is not the natural ice of a century ago, but it is ready for the puck.
The stadium hosts the final matches of the Kharlamov Cup. Last season, the decisive Game 7 was played here between MHK Spartak and SKA-1946. The Spartak Cup pre-season tournament also returned to this location in 2025, bringing former players back to the ice they once knew. These are not just games; they are a continuation of a local tradition.
There is no grand facade or historic entrance to admire. It stands in the Sokolniki District.
