Stadium
Leangen Arena
Trondheim, Norway
The arena sits in the Leangen district of Trondheim, where the municipal council has managed the facility since it opened in 1977. The structure holds a little over 2,000 seats, with sources disagreeing on whether the total reaches 3,000.
Nidaros Hockey plays its home games here, having moved into the hall in 2015 after Rosenborg IHK left in 2014. The club has not had to move again, which is more than can be said for the local football team. Their stadium received a sponsorship name that changed everything, forcing the hockey players to keep their original title. The address is Tungavegen 3, where fans park in the open lot before walking through the doors.
The stands rise in a simple curve around the rink, with the upper tier offering a clear view of the scoreboard mounted high above the centre ice. The boards are painted in the colours of the home team, with the logo visible near the penalty box. There are no luxury boxes or corporate lounges, just rows of seats and the cold air that rises from the surface. The hall has survived since the late seventies without a major rebuild, which is unusual for a facility of this age.
Leangen Arena is a modest ice hockey hall in Trondheim, built by the municipality in the mid-seventies and still in use today. It is the only dedicated ice rink in the city, hosting Nidaros Hockey since 2015. The capacity is listed as 3,000 by some, 2,050 by others, but the seats fill quickly when the local team plays.
