National Sports Center Stadium

The stadium itself grew out of a state-backed push — the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission broke ground in 1987 and opened the facility in 1990 — but it has spent most of its life serving whichever team needed a home rather than building a single identity of its own.

Minnesota Thunder played here through the 1990s and again briefly at the end of the 2000s, and when Minnesota United FC arrived in the NASL in 2010, this became their pitch too, right through the club's 2016 move up to MLS. Since 2022 the reserve side, Minnesota United FC 2, has taken over first-team duties on the artificial surface, alongside youth national team fixtures for the United States. For six years the ground carried a sponsor's name, the Anheuser-Busch Center, before reverting to National Sports Center Stadium in 2016.

The closest a league match came was 9,460 for Minnesota United's meeting with Indy Eleven in July 2016. In 2011 the ground hosted the first leg of the NASL Soccer Bowl final, where the NSC Minnesota Stars beat the Fort Lauderdale Strikers 3-1 in front of 4,511.

Outside professional football, the stadium's real claim is the USA Cup, the youth tournament that draws well over a thousand teams to the wider complex each summer.
