New Indoor Gymnasium of Kilkis

The New Municipal Sports Center of Kilkis is a modern venue, but it is not the first attempt to host sport in this town. The old gymnasium suffered functional problems for years, leaving wrestling and other disciplines without a proper home. When the new indoor facility finally opened, it marked a turning point for local athletes.

Construction appears to have finished around 2010, though the operating license was not granted until 2015. The venue sits on Grigoriou Lambraki Street in the Zoopazaro neighborhood.

The space holds 1,500 spectators. It is modest compared to venues in Thessaloniki. The parquet floor is standard for Greek indoor sports.

GAS Kilkis handball club plays here, having won the Greek Cup in 2004 and reached the championship final three times. KouPa Kilkis basketball team also uses the facility for their regional and national league matches. Beyond team sports, the arena hosts wrestling championships for teenagers and junior girls, as well as mini volleyball tournaments.

The venue also doubles as a cultural space. The Gastronomy Festival 'Kername Kilkis' took place here in October 2023, showing how municipal facilities in smaller Greek towns serve multiple purposes. The Municipality of Kilkis owns the building and manages its schedule.
