Inside, the space feels crowded. With a capacity of 600, the tiers rise steeply, placing spectators within arm's reach of the action. The acoustics reflect the sound of the game; the squeak of trainers and the clap of hands carry across the parquet floor. It is a room built for the fast, short bursts of handball, a sport that demands space to be compressed.

The nickname "La Catedral" belongs to the local handball community, a title earned through the intensity of the matches played here rather than the grandeur of the architecture. The venue has hosted the Sector Final of the Spanish Handball Championship, most notably in 1988 when BM Granollers took the title. The club that calls this home, now known as the Fundación Agustinos Alicante, has played in the Primera División Nacional de Balonmano since its formation in 1971.

The building itself opened on February 28, 1978. A second inauguration ceremony took place on May 13, 2021, marking a renovation that modernized the facilities for the new century. The arena remains the property of the school and the Agustinos foundation, prioritizing the development of local players over commercial spectacle.
