The name on the gate and the name of the tenant are the same word, and that word is a job: Pakhtakor means cotton-grower in Uzbek. The club owns the ground, runs it, and has never had to share the billing.

It sits in the Shaykhantahur district of Tashkent, and finding it on a map depends on which map. Some listings put it at 69 Islam Karimov Street; others at 98A Uzbekistan Avenue. The street around it was renamed, and the addresses have not fully caught up with each other.

Construction began in 1954 and finished two years later, with the opening set for 11 August 1956. That places it in the wave of Soviet-era central stadiums built for cities that were being rebuilt at the time.

The pitch is grass, and has stayed grass.

For anyone travelling in, the practical detail is the address confusion rather than anything about the stands.
