Palau de Gel
Barcelona, Spain
The Palau de Gel stands between the Camp Nou and the site where the Mini Estadi once stood. The first photograph shows the temporary home, the Pista de Gel, which opened in May 2026 after the original arena closed in April 2022. It sits on land ceded by the University of Barcelona at the Esports UB complex.
The original arena opened in October 1971, designed by Francesc Cavaller and Josep Soteras alongside the Palau Blaugrana. It hosted the Liga Nacional de Hockey Hielo, figure skating events, and served as a warm-up area during the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics. The temporary facility holds 750 people on the rink and 330 in the stands, a reduction from the original capacity of 1,256. The permanent replacement for the Palau de Gel is scheduled to open in 2029 as part of the Espai Barça project, with initial ideas including locations next to the new Palau Blaugrana or near the new corporate building.
