Pavilhão do Marítimo
Funchal, Portugal
The venue sits in the Santo António parish of Funchal, a town where the mountains meet the sea. Pavilhão do Marítimo opened in 2001, part of the first phase of the complex built to house the club’s multiple disciplines.
The pavilion’s purpose has shifted with time. It hosted the 2023 Taça de Portugal Final Four in handball, drawing near-full houses for matches like Sporting CP against FC Porto. More recently, it secured a different kind of prestige. In 2025, the European Handball Federation homologated the arena for playoff matches in the EHF European League. By 2026, it was confirmed as the host venue for the group stage of the EHF European League Men 2026/2027.
The club’s handball team plays here, competing in the Andebol 1, but the space is also used for futsal, volleyball, and gymnastics.
