About 18,000 people got into this ground for a Bulgarian Cup quarter-final against CSKA Sofia in 2011 — the best-attended match played anywhere in Bulgaria that year. Spartak lost it 0:3.

The reason is a single piece of work. In 2012 the arena was rebuilt to meet licensing requirements, and 3,000 individual seats went into the western sectors; the licensed capacity settled at 3,040. Around the same period Pleven municipality drew a subsidy of 1.25m leva for urgent repairs across five sports facilities, the stadium among them.

The seats face natural grass, which the ground has kept throughout. It carries the plain city name now.

Bulgaria have used it too, though rarely. On 29 April 1981 the national side beat Norway 1:0 in a friendly here, Plamen Tvetkov scoring the goal.

Day to day the tenant is Spartak Pleven. The ground on Tsar Samuil street takes both without alteration: the same 3,040 seats, the same grass.
