Podmežakla Hall
Jesenice, Slovenia
Formerly: Dvorana Podmežakla, Hockey Arena Podmežakla, Podmežakla Sports Park
Podmežakla Hall sits on the southwest bank of the Sava Dolinka River, tucked immediately below the Mežakla Plateau. It is a functional block that has been reshaped over time, notably in 1997 and again during a renovation that ran through 2013. The ice rink itself stays true to standard Olympic dimensions of 61 by 30 metres.
The arena is the home of HD Jesenice, a club that has survived several name changes and a dissolution in 2012 before reforming. The ice surface hosts figure skating as well, specifically the annual Triglav Trophy, which has been held here since 1992. The hall also opened its doors for basketball during the first round of EuroBasket 2013, proving its utility goes beyond ice hockey. Matches from the World Ice Hockey Championships have passed through these doors, including a Pool C event in 1966 and a Pool B tournament in 1998.
A permit violation in March 2011 forced the venue to close its doors temporarily due to issues with spectator stands and renovations. The address is Ledarska ulica 4, and the official website is run by the local sports organization, Zavod za šport Jesenice. The hall is also known by the name Podmežakla Sports Park.
