Bujumbura's new national ground opened on 31 January 2026, on the same ground where the old stadium once stood in the Mukaza district, off Avenue Muyinga. Demolition of the previous structure began in 2022, and architect Méthode Ndikumagenge oversaw the design that replaced it. Vital'O FC played Bumamuru FC in the opening fixture, winning 2-1, and the venue has since become home to Vital'O, Bujumbura City FC and Inter Star Bujumbura alongside the national team.

What the new build restores matters more than what it adds. CAF barred international fixtures at the old ground from May 2010, citing failures to meet its standards, and Burundi spent the years after 2021 renting stadiums abroad to host home matches. The women's U-20 side played Zambia there in September 2025, and the senior men's team met Kenya on 9 October 2025.
