Salle Louis Dewerdt

Salle Louis Dewerdt sits at the head of Avenue de Rosendaël in Dunkerque.

The hall opened in 1968, built at the initiative of Louis Dewerdt, who served as the Deputy Mayor for sports for two decades. The city named the venue after him before he passed away, a gesture that has stuck through decades of change. The interior surface is synthetic wooden parquet, laid down for handball and basketball rather than for traditional football.

The ground has a history of carrying other teams when their own homes are unavailable. During the 2023–2024 season, it became the temporary home for the basketball team BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque after their primary venue, Sportica, was destroyed by fire. The capacity here is often listed as 2,500, though some archives count 2,440.

More than a decade earlier, the complex hosted Group D matches of the 2001 Men’s Handball World Championship. The venue remains owned by the City of Dunkerque, which manages the complex as a whole. There is no dedicated website for the hall itself; the city’s municipal site handles the paperwork.
