Stadium
Sparkasse Arena
Bolzano, Italy
The arena was built for a purpose that has since passed. It was constructed to host the 1994 IIHF Men's Ice Hockey World Championship , a tournament that brought the world to this corner of Italy. The name on the roof has changed, too; it was once PalaOnda , then Eiswelle , before the banking group Sparkasse took the title. The municipality bought the building in 2010, moving ownership from the fairgrounds to the city.
The Hockey Club Bolzano team plays here every night in the winter, skating over the same patch of ice that hosted the international crowds two decades ago.
