Sportovní hala Kunovice

Kunovice is a town known for aircraft. Inside, the hall functions as a community hub and a home for the local handball team, SHK Kunovice.

A photograph of the town’s medieval seal shows a gatehouse flanked by two towers, a reminder that this place was once fortified. Today, the sports hall sits near a community centre that hosts a café and a cinema school, blending sport with local life. The hall itself opened in 2013, replacing older facilities to provide a dedicated space for the region’s athletes.

The interior is defined by its polished wooden parquet floor, which smells faintly of liniment and sweat. The lighting is bright and even, casting no shadows across the court. There are no tiered stands; instead, there are rows of plastic chairs and a few wooden benches along the side. The acoustics are sharp, meaning every squeak of a shoe and every shout from the coach carries across the room.

SHK Kunovice plays here on most weekends, competing in the 1st Women's Handball League. The team is small and focused, relying on speed and endurance rather than size. The hall is also booked for school dances and local concerts, turning the space from a sports arena into a village hall for an evening.
