St.Galler Kantonalbank Arena
Rapperswil-Jona, Switzerland
Formerly: Eishalle Lido, Diners Club Arena
The building opened in 1987 as the Eishalle Lido, replacing an outdoor artificial rink that had served the town since 1961. A renovation and expansion between 2005 and 2006 reshaped the layout, shifting the configuration from primarily standing to a mix of seating and standing areas, bringing the total capacity to 6,100 spectators. The arena was renamed Diners Club Arena following the work and a sponsorship deal with Diners Club International. In 2016, the naming rights transferred to St. Galler Kantonalbank, giving the venue its current title.
The SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers have played their home games here since the 1987 opening. The club, founded in 1945, competes in the National League (NL), the top tier of Swiss ice hockey. The Lakers won the 2018 Swiss Ice Hockey Cup Final here, defeating HC Davos 7–2 to claim their first Swiss Cup title. The arena has also hosted the 103rd St. Galler Kantonalschwinget, a traditional Swiss wrestling event, in May 2017.
NHL veterans Doug Gilmour and Jason Spezza played for the Lakers during their respective stints in 1994–95 and 2012–13. The playing surface is artificial ice. The official website for the managing club is www.lakers.ch.
