Dijon's ground has carried the mayor's name since 1969, when the city renamed the old Parc des Sports for Gaston Gérard, whose nineteen years in office ran through the years the stadium was built. It opened in May 1934 as simply that: the sports park, before the man who pushed for it got the honour attached to the gate.

There is no rival ground in Dijon to weigh it against — this is the only senior stadium the city has, and Rue du Stade has meant football here for over ninety years without a second site ever competing for the fixture list.

The pitch stays natural grass, and the place keeps a modest, single-ground scale that never pushed toward the redevelopment other French clubs went through for a World Cup or a European bid. It has simply stayed the address, entrance G on Rue du Stade itself, doing the job it was built for under a name that has now outlasted the man twice over.
