Stadion Miejski w Kluczborku

At the corner of ul. Sportowa 7, the Municipal Stadium sits quietly in Kluczbork. It is not a place defined by its size. The terraces that once held a crowd of 12,000 have been replaced by seated stands, a change made in 2008 that shrank the ground to its current capacity of just over 2,500.

The pitch is natural grass, though the surface is kept ready for night matches by artificial lighting installed in March 2016. The lights cost 2.68 million PLN to install, a significant sum for a club that plays in the fourth tier of Polish football. MKS Kluczbork holds the tenancy here, but the ground remembers older tenants. In 1928, when the town was still Kreuzburg O.S., the stadium opened as Stadion im. Friedricha Ludwiga Jahna. It served SpVgg 1911 Kreuzburg then, and later Metal Kluczbork, which reached the second division in the 1970s.

International fixtures have found their way to this quiet corner of Poland. On November 9, 2017, a temporary stand was erected to accommodate 3,000 spectators for a friendly between Poland and Portugal under-20s. The Poland women’s team also played here, defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina 4:0 in 2018.

The atmosphere is not one of intense pressure. In a match against Pogoń Szczecin in 2010, only 1,500 fans turned up. The history of the stadium is layered, from the German gymnastics pioneer it was once named after to the modern amenities that allow it to host international youth games.
