Stadion Police
Police, Poland
Formerly: Stadion OSiR, Stadion Chemika
Stadion Miejski w Policach sits at the end of ul. Siedlecka. The ground is defined by the tower. It rises from the edge of the north stand. This structure stands apart from the terraces, giving the stadium a vertical focus.
The seating around the pitch is a mix of faded turquoise and beige plastic chairs. They are arranged in rows that follow the slope of the land, though the south side remains flat. The pitch itself is a rectangle of natural grass, kept in reasonable order despite the age of the surrounding infrastructure.
The stadium carries names as well as history. It is known locally as Stadion OSiR, after the Sports and Recreation Centre that owns it, and Stadion Chemika, a reminder of the club's industrial roots. KP Chemik Police, the team that plays here, has spent most of its existence in the lower tiers of Polish football, though it spent time in the second division during the 1980s and 1990s. The capacity for league matches is currently listed at 2,795, a figure that has likely shrunk since the days when standing terraces allowed larger crowds to pack in.
Something of the ground's character comes from its surroundings. The north end is backed by a dense line of trees, suggesting the stadium is built into a wooded hollow. On the pitch itself, the only event of note was the visit of the Cameroon national team in 2010 for a friendly against Poland. Samuel Eto'o and his teammates trained on this same grass, but the tower watched over them in silence. The stadium remains severely outdated, with new plans debated for over two decades, but for now, it serves its purpose.
