Talvisalo ice rink
Savonlinna, Finland
Formerly: Gigantti Arena
Talvisalo ice rink sits in the Talvisalo district of Savonlinna. The structure was commissioned in the late seventies to provide a proper surface for the local club, SaPKo. The roof has been repaired over the years, but the footprint remains the same.
The club plays in the Suomi-sarja, the third tier of Finnish ice hockey. The official capacity is 2,833, a number that has not changed since the doors opened. The highest attendance recorded for a competitive match was 2,321 for a Mestis playoff semi-final against Espoo United.
The arena has worn different names. For a short period, it was Gigantti Arena, a sponsorship title that disappeared when the agreement ended. It is now known as Lempeä Lämpö Areena. The name changes do not affect the game. The ice is cut into two halves: one for the senior club and one for the training sessions of the U16 and U18 teams.
