Terningen Arena

Terningen Arena opened in January 2011. Inside, the floor is a seamless expanse of parquet, laid over concrete, a surface that has seen more than just handball since its inception.

The capacity is modest for a club of its stature, seating only 2,500 spectators, yet the atmosphere in the room tightens when the European nights come. The stands are close to the action, a necessity in a building that is not vast. When Elverum played Kolstad in the final of the national league in May 2024, the noise was not generated by a sea of people, but by the proximity of everyone in the room. The match went into four extra time periods, a marathon of endurance that tested the players and the fans in equal measure. Elverum won 41–40, a result that felt like a reprieve rather than a triumph, given the stakes.

It is a place where you can see the military presence from the door. The Norwegian Armed Forces use the facility, and the University of Innlandet holds its lectures in the same halls where the handball teams train. This mix of disciplines keeps the arena busy, but it is the handball that dictates the rhythm of the year. The attendance record of 6,710 stands as a singular point of reference, a day when the town emptied its pockets and filled the seats, though the official capacity for a league match remains half that figure. There is no grand history of demolition and rebuilding here; the building simply exists, functional and unadorned, waiting for the next season.
