Tiexi Stadium in Shenyang takes its place in Chinese football history as a quiet backup plan that unexpectedly became the main event for a local club. Built in just over two years for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the ground replaced an older stadium from the 1950s and was originally designed as a multi-purpose facility with an athletics track.
The renovation completed in May 2025 transformed the venue completely. The athletics track was removed, the capacity expanded to 40,000, and the natural grass surface received heating and drainage systems. The stadium reopened with a match between Liaoning Tieren FC and Shijiazhuang Gongfu. The team achieved their best-ever Chinese Super League finish of third place in 2011 while playing here.
The attendance record of 40,220 was set during a derby against Dalian Yingbo on April 22, 2026. The match was a local rivalry rather than an occasion for international attention. No major international finals or concerts have been hosted. The stadium remains under the management of the Tiexi District government and serves as the home ground for Shenyang Urban.
