Inside, this is a working ice rink for the Grizzlys Wolfsburg, not a football arena. The club reached the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) finals in the 2010–11 season, and the crowd has been known to push the limits of what the 4,500-seat capacity can hold, with records pointing to figures slightly over 4,660. The space is divided into standing and seated areas, with a dedicated VIP box overlooking the action. The ice itself is a standard 60-by-30-metre sheet, covered in artificial ice technology developed after the original Eispalast closed its doors in 2006.

The building replaced its predecessor on the same site, a decision made by the city council to meet modern league standards. It has hosted playoff matches against teams like Eisbären Berlin and Kölner Haie, but the atmosphere remains that of a regional club rather than a national institution. The sponsors change with the seasons, though the name has settled on Eis Arena Wolfsburg after various iterations. The ground is quiet when the ice is off, and the stairs outside are empty until the gates open. The history here is tied to the stability of the ice, not the unpredictability of a pitch.
