Zimný štadión Prievidza
Prievidza, Slovakia
The ice at Zimný štadión Prievidza is mechanically frozen. Built in 1968 as an open-air rink, the structure stayed exposed until 1991, when a roof finally sealed it in. The venue became a year-round facility for HC Prievidza . The team ran in the top-tier 1. hokejová liga SR for nearly two decades, but the league has since shifted, and the arena’s role has adjusted with it.
Inside, the ice measures 60 by 30 metres. Capacity figures do not settle: some sources cite 2,788 seats, others point to 3,986 when standing areas are counted. The building belongs to the city’s technical services, which maintain everything from the refrigeration units to the loose boards along the glass.
Between hockey games, the floor hosts IMT Smile concerts and EUROGOLD MMA tournaments. Model railway exhibitions take over the stands during quiet months.
HC Prievidza traces its roots to 1954, changing names from Tatran to Baník to Bulldogs before settling on the current identity. The youth sides, MHC Prievidza U18 and U20, still play here. No record exists of an attendance peak or a specific builder for the original 1968 rink.
