Zimný štadión Trnava
Trnava, Slovakia
The Zimný štadión Trnava carries its name without alteration. The city property management office runs the facility, and that has been the case since it opened in 1980. No other name has ever been attached to it.
A reconstruction between October 2021 and October 2022 brought new machinery to the cooling room. Three units of 337 kW each now push the cold. Smaller work followed that winter: nets went up, pigeon spikes were fitted, and an electronic scoreboard appeared.
HK Gladiators Trnava plays their Slovak 1. Liga games here. Figure skating clubs and speed skating groups also use the rinks, and the public comes for skating sessions. The arena holds two ice surfaces—one slightly wider than the other—plus a separate inline skating area.
Capacity figures differ. Elite Prospects and HokejSpravy.sk place the total at roughly 3,800. Športoviská.sk counts 3,200 seated places. No single figure settles the matter.
Events have come through the doors. The 2002 IIHF World U18 Championship brought teams from the United States, Finland, Belarus, Sweden, Switzerland and Ukraine for Group B matches. The annual Tirnavia Ice Cup figure skating competition draws competitors each year. A concert series called "Hudobná šou na ľade Frozen" has also taken place on the ice.
There is no record of who designed the building or who built it. The address sits at Spartakovská 7239/1B, and the official site lists the venue under the city's property portfolio. The surface is natural ice, and that is how it has always been.
