Al-Ahli Doha secured a narrow 1:0 victory over Qatar in the Star League's third round on Wednesday, with the match defined by an early red card and one-sided possession. The hosts dominated from the first whistle, keeping 76 per cent of the ball while their opponents struggled to find rhythm.
The turning point arrived in the twelfth minute when Qatar's Eisa Palangi was sent off, leaving his side to play with ten men for the remainder of the contest. Bartolomé Márquez López had already picked up a yellow card for Al-Ahli Doha ten minutes earlier, but the numerical advantage quickly told.
Qatar made two substitutions in quick succession — Mohamed Mushrinn and Bruno Tabata — trying to shore up a defence that was under constant pressure. Despite the extra man, the visitors could not create a single big chance, while Al-Ahli Doha registered four.
The statistics painted a stark picture. Al-Ahli Doha fired 22 shots into the penalty area, of which 12 were on target. Qatar managed just six shots inside the box, with only two finding the wayward direction. The hosts also completed 500 passes compared to their opponents' 106.
Joao Pedro picked up a yellow card for Qatar on the half-hour mark, but the card mattered little as his side ran out of legs. The goalkeeper made nine saves to keep the deficit at one, but the margin could have been wider.
Both teams now sit on one point from two games, though Al-Ahli Doha move up to tenth place while Qatar drop to eleventh. It was a result built on opportunity, not dominance — three or four moments decided the game, the rest was background noise.
