Bregenz and Aon Fivers Margareten Open New Season with High-Scoring Draw
Bregenz and Aon Fivers Margareten played out a 32-34 draw in the opening match of the Austrian Handball League (HLA) campaign on September 5, 2026.
Both sides entered the fixture with no record in the new season, each showing zero games, wins, draws, losses and points in the standings. The result gave each team one point after a tightly contested encounter.
Bregenz brought recent form into the match, having taken three wins and two defeats across five fixtures in May. Their most recent result was a 33-29 victory over HSG Graz on May 9.
Aon Fivers Margareten also came into the game with mixed results, recording three wins and two losses in their last five matches. They had drawn 33-33 with FK Feldkirchen on June 3 before losing 31-32 to them on June 6.
The away side held a narrow advantage throughout, taking possession of the lead in the final quarter. Bregenz pushed for an equaliser but could not find a route through the defence.
The result leaves both teams on one point each after the opening round of fixtures in the HLA. The table remains open with new positions yet to be determined.
